Fun – what can I write about? I have a lot of fun in my life – always have had! Well, almost always.
For the past three years I have been a Volunteer at the Caboolture Historical Village. In January last year there was a special train trip from Brisbane to the far north of the state to celebrate 150 Years of Queensland Rail. I chose to go on the train from near my home, Caboolture up to Gympie, which was to take about four hours.
When I told the other Volunteers others wanted to go too – so we chose to offer the trip to others, and as our Village bus was to bring us back from Gympie, we could only fit 11 people into the trip. We booked the tickets and on the day the train was to pass through Caboolture we lined up with other passengers on the station.
However, unlike the other travellers we were all in period costume. (I will endeavour to find some photos.)
Part of our goal was to promote the Village and encourage more visitors, so we wandered back and forth along the train as it chugged its way north. Along the roads there were people waving, and taking photos. It was of course quite a historical occasion.
It was an amazing experience and we did have a lot of fun on the journey.
This was no boring train trip!! There were lots of laughs!! At some stations there were re-enactments too, with “robbers” stopping the passengers. So much fun.
When the train returned to Brisbane several weeks later, we tried to get tickets to go from Caboolture to Brisbane. None were available.
So, as we were “convicts” we did what convicts do. We broke the law!! My two convict cohorts pictured above, and I boarded the train without tickets and managed to get to the city.
The big fun part was returning home on a busy train at the end of the work day, and the other travellers looking at us and wondering what we were doing.
Lots of Fun.
