A Quick Trip to Rocky

I had planned to visit Rocky (Rockhampton) to visit friends, but I had another reason to go. I had heard about a company that creates houses for use as granny flats.  When I checked the website I was surprised to find no indication of where they were.  I guessed (wrongly, as it turns out) that with my luck they would be in another state or at least miles from where I live.  When I phoned them I learned that they were in Yeppoon.

This seaside town is not far from Rockhampton, central Queensland, where I was going to visit to see some friends.  I was all set to go a few weeks ago, but a strange bite that caused me some problems stopped that.  We never did find out what bit me on the back!

Mary Poppins

So I set off for Rockhampton on March 1st.  It is quite a drive – some 580 kms, though I took a detour into Maryborough.   I had to find out about the upcoming Mary Poppins Festival which will be held from June 23rd to July 4th.

I spent around 30 minutes at Maryborough, taking photos and researching before I set off again.  It is my plan to attend the Festival.

I arrived at Gracemere, where my friends live at 4.30 pm. Tired but happy.  It was great to catch up with them.

The next day two of us set off for Yeppoon.  It’s a lovely spot – I had visited several times many years ago.  It certainly has grown!

We spent the morning looking at Pop Up Homes before heading for the Keppel Bay Sailing Club for lunch.

Lunch was great – and it was wonderful to be in air conditioning with a view out over the bay.

After lunch we visited the Yeppoon Information Centre and the Shell Display before heading back to Rocky and visiting my friend’s daughter.  Then back to Gracemere.  Very tired after another day of driving.

On the Friday I packed up and headed back home to Beachmere.  Another long day of driving – and I needed a few days of rest at home to regain my energy.  Great trip though.
