An Historic Australian Fridge

A refrigerator made in Brisbane in the 1940’s and 50’s? When you associate with folk who are interested in Australian history, you learn so much.  Today I was contacted by someone who is seeking a home for a refrigerator manufactured by a company owned by a man, Lowther Charles Hope in Brisbane.  Sadly I am at this point unable to find a home for it, but of course I researched the story.

Mr Hope’s biography is here.  It is a story that I had not heard and I am surprised to hear that these refrigerators were made here in Brisbane way back then.

I found a story about one on the website for Museum Victoria.  You can read the full story here.

Charles HopeI have learned something more today.
