The task for Day 9 is about photography. One of my favourite topics. I call myself a camera addict. It is quite a long story. I don’t recall when I had my own camera – but I know I did have something like a Box Brownie when I was doing my nursing training around 1963 – 66. I know that I had several cameras – though don’t recall the brands of them. It wasn’t until my travels to China in 2008 that I felt compelled to learn more about photography. I did take with me a small digital camera, but within a few weeks it had failed. I recall visiting a shopping mall in Shaoxing to find another one – and negotiate with the shopkeepers – me with almost no Chinese language skills and the shopkeeper no Engish. It was funny – but I left with the camera, and I was a very satisfied customer.
Some months later I invested in a Canon SLR – and in the past few years have had two more – upgrading for various reasons. My son, and my eldest granddaughter have been given my “old” cameras.
I ALWAYS carry a camera. I do use my phone – a Samsung Galaxy 4, but rarely. The most likely time for me to use this is if I am out walking and come across something that I want to photograph. I also have a Samsung point and shoot digital camera, which lives permanently in my handbag. It takes good photos, and much to my delight is purple – my favourite colour.
However, my best camera is my Canon 650D – which I love. It goes with me almost everywhere, but as it is heavy I choose when I take it with me.
As I live in a beautiful area of Queensland I have no problems finding new and interesting landscape to photograph. I don’t do much in the way of portraits or family shots – and as a mad traveller I take it with me!!! I do have to find ways to easily travel with it!!
I have also asked to take photographs for events etc, and I find it an awesome tool. I don’t have a spare battery – but check it is charged well enough for me, and if a bit light on or if I am going away, of course will take the charger.
Here are two I took recently while walking not far from my home.
