A favourite song? As part of the UBC I have been asked to write about my favourite song. I am not sure that I have one, but I do have favourite music. A lot of the music I enjoy has a story to it.
My son, Gavin is a singer, and I like some of his songs. The easiest way to let you hear him is to get you to go to his website here.
Despite the fact that I am the most “unmusical” member of my family – exhusband, daughter and son were all professional singers/entertainers at some stage. Not me. I’m hopeless, but love music.

I would listen to more classical music than the family members I suspect, and I also love jazz. I would go to a jazz event at the drop of a hat!! I love Rimsky-Korsakov!!!
When I was nursing I won some money and bought a record player, which was back in 1964, and I was a regular purchaser of records – mainly jazz.
Dave Brubeck’s Take Five is still one of my favourites.
I have had some funny experiences singing though – two in China. One was where another Australian teacher and I sang “I am Australian” at an International Women’s Day event in 2010. Another was a “Cultural Event” in China, where a collection 13 crazy Australians, Canadian, and English folk sang the Hokey Pokey. Oh, that’s for another time to tell that story.
I tend to enjoy the songs from the 1950’s to 1970’s – though do appreciate some of the more recent singing.
Myfavourite female singer is Barbra Streisand. I have many CD’s of hers. I don’t play them often – well, not often enough, but I still see her as my favourite!!! And I don’t have a favourite song!!
My father was in the Army and way back I can remember singing a lot of old Army songs with the family, Show Me the Way to Go Home, It’s a Long Way to Tipperary, Waltzing Matilda and more. A lot of fun with them.
