Found a Friend – Someone From the Past

The World is small sometimes. Yesterday I wrote on this blog about a friend – someone I met in 1963.  The post is here.

Today we were sitting chatting when my phone rang.  It was a friend from way back then – someone I had not seen since about 1971 when I lived in Melbourne.  We had lost contact totally with her and another friend.  These two are still nursing – one still in Victoria and the other not far from where I live.  In fact,  she has lived here for many years.

We were only talking about them yesterday.  In fact, I tried to find them on Google, without success.

My friend and I have kept in touch with some of the friends from our nursing days. We have met up with some of them over the years.

It appears that H read an article I wrote for Weekend Notes, about a community market near where she lives.   She thought she recognised my name and went hunting for more information. H found the story I wrote yesterday about Mt Gambier and nursing.  She even recognised me from my photo!!

B and I were both excited about the phone call from H.  It wasn’t a long conversation, but we managed to exchange various pieces of information and have made arrangements to meet in two days time.

How amazing!!  I mean, only yesterday I had given up hope of finding her and her friend.  I could find no reference to them in the White Pages.  They have remarried and changed their names of course. If I hadn’t written the article for Weekend Notes, about an event in her locality, we might never have made contact again!!

We are looking forward to catching up on Tuesday now.  B lives thousands of kms away and she just happened to be with me when the phone call came through.  Amazing really.

In all the years we lived in Mt Gambier, we never visited the Umpherston Sinkhole.  I went there in August/September this year.  Amazed that I had never visited earlier.

We will meet up with H soon.
