It was a long day, but 12 of us met at the Caboolture Historical Village around 7 am before setting off to Highfields near Toowoomba. As we were all volunteers at the Caboolture Village, we were keen to visit Highfields and see how their exhibits and big day panned out.
We were all suitably attired, and set off in the Village bus, up through Woodford, Kilcoy and Esk to HIghfields, which is on the northern end of Toowoomba. It rained on and off all day in fact, but didn’t cause too many issues really, although it made for muddy ground at the Village.
We had tea and damper on arrival, and then wandered off like a pack of lost sheep in all directions.
There were some great exhibits, especially the Energy Museum and the Transport Museum which many bikes attached to ceiling structures. Quite innovative I thought.
One of the items on the program that we were hoping to see was the “Fashion Parade” – but it was not a parade of the fashions that we had expected. We were in the parade, and prizes were awarded. One of our group won the prize in the women’s fashion stakes, and another one of our group one in the men’s fashion stakes, and also won the best moustache. So we didn’t get to see their fashion collection!
