The Spirit of Tasmania docked on time at Port Melbourne, and the unloading of passengers and vehicles proceeded as usual. It was raining a little, but it was not to deter me from my day’s activities.
I drove along the seafront at Port Melbourne, realising that despite living in Melbourne on two occasions I had never been there. My husband when were lived there in 1970’s worked at Port Melbourne – he was actually a sales representative and reported regularly to the office there – which incidentally is the venue for the current Channel 9 series of The Block!
I had an hour or so before my due time at a friend’s place in Dandenong, and headed for the house we lived at way back in 1969 – the house which my baby son came home to after his birth.
I was grateful for my GPS as I would not have been able to find my way from Seaford to Dandenong without it! So much has changed since I was in that part of Melbourne all those years ago.
For the next two days I had a relaxing time with my friend, who I had known since around 1968 when we lived in Warrnambool. We did go to lunch one day at a hotel in Dandenong and spent time in a shopping centre, but essentially we sat and talked and laughed for two whole days. It was great not to have to drive/do anything! I did not access the Internet, no use my camera except for some photos of the flowers in my friend’s garden.
It was a most pleasant break from my travels which I was most happy about. However, on the 30th August I set off early to drive to Warrnambool, via the Great Ocean Road. I had done some of the trip many years ago, but did not recognise any of it.
Again there was frequent rain, but not enough to make driving difficult.
