I am a great fan of TED – I enjoy watching the talks and love listeing to new ideas. I am so much a fan of Nigel Westlake – and now a fan of Lior. I searched for a suitable TED video on YouTube, knowing that I wanted one from Australia, that might have a great impace. I love Nigel’s work, especially his requiem for his late son.
I learned about TED in a most unlikely place. I met a senior gentleman from Holland, around the pool when I was visiting Ubud, Bali, in 2011 when I was there on an excuse of researching Bamboo. We chatted briefly as we lay back in the salubrious tropical landscape around the pool, and he told me about the TED talks. How I didn’t know about it amazed me, as it is just the sort of ideas that I love and I have since had moments of addiction to the talks. I love downloading them and watching them on my tablet.
It was a brief meeting which had a great impact on me for what I learned from that short conversation. I didn’t learn his name and we are unlikely to ever meet again, but if I did, I would tell him how grateful I was to learn about TED.
Only today I found a YouTube of a friend of mine Geoff Kirkwood who spoke at a TED event at Gympie, Queensland, in December 2012. It is below.
(Today I mastered the art of embedding videos from YouTube into WordPress.)
