Please Don’t Give Me Another Pen

I mean it, don’t give me any more pens! I know I write a lot, though mainly on a keyboard, but I am being overwhelmed by pens and pencils, that I don’t need.  I am about to clean out my supplies – downsize a little.

I do like to use a “Biro” or similar when I am doing official things, and I love my Gel Pens for every day writing (notebook, notes, etc), and I like to use fountain pens for writing on cards etc, but it seems every time I turn around there are more pens.  Usually, they are advertising something – often things I no longer have any interest in!

I was going to count them – but there are more than 100.   I only need 10 or so, and will see if I can donate them to anyone who needs them.  Mostly, though, I suspect they will all end up in the rubbish bin.

There is a lot of talk about caring for our environment – and at the same time we are buy products with excessive packaging, buying things we won’t keep for the “long term” and everyone is trying to sell items that they no longer need.

My mail box fills with paper advertising all sorts of items that I will never buy, and newspapers are filled with stuff I don’t need – I don’t need the huge real estate ‘magazine’ nor the car sales stuff.  It goes straight to the bin without me even turning one page.  More rubbish for our never ending waste disposal.  (I do recycle as much as I can, but I lament the waste.  The chopping down of trees.  The destruction of forests to make more paper – much of it ending up as rubbish/waste.

On the one hand we talk about the need to preserve our environment and on the other hand the majority of us buy/gain stuff that we don’t keep, but throw it away, further adding to the degradation of our environment.

So, I will remove all the pens I do not use – and yes, they will probably end up on the rubbish tip.
