Behind Again (UBC6)

Running Late – Behind Again

When I started the Ultimate Blog Challenge I had good intentions, but I am behind again.  I know, my friends will say, “You’ve taken on too much again.”, and I know I do, but mostly I manage to get on top of things. But a daily writing challenge? Am I mad? It’s not as if I party all the time – that lifestyle is long gone. This month I have had so many extra challenges.

  • Looking after a sick friend.
  • Spending a day driving my daughter as she had a medical procedure and couldn’t drive
  • Extra work with an organisation I volunteer with
  • A computer issue – and I had to wait until I could see my “Guru”
  • The major gas leak.

And so it goes.

The Gas Leak

They built the apartments where I live in 1980 and despite much complaining by many tenants including me, there have been no renovations. No updating of any sort. About gas – we only used it here for heating water, and I don’t have a brilliant sense of smell, so I wouldn’t notice a leak if it was under my window. And it was, almost.

The first I knew about it was the Monday morning, when the lady who had been rushed to hospital with breathing difficulties in the early hours of that day, returned home and advised the authorities about a potential gas leak.  Soon there were men everywhere checking where the leak was.  One of the men spoke to me and said that the gas was installed well before good rules were applied and there were many issues.

Soon there was huge holes being dug by hand, and later in the day a digger arrived.  Yes, right under my bedroom window.  The men, more concerned about the gas issues than my garden, trampled it all and ruined my pumpkin patch. (Luckily I managed to save some of them!)

The digging went on until around 4 am. Sleep didn’t come much that night, and I was feeling dazed for the next day or so. I had about four days of limited action.  How can you write when your brain is addled?

Postscript – being without hot water for a day or so, many workmen visiting and now, all is well. New machinery is in place. We can relax.

Writing Tasks

Yes, I have many. I am working on two projects for myself at the moment. Reading, writing, editing, discussing with others and so on. Yes, I am not behind in that too. But I also write for WeekendNotes.com, so I have been out and about taking photos, midst other tasks. I am behind with that too. But while on my way to or from other tasks, I call in at places to take photos, notes etc to do a quick article for WN. This is one.

Will I Catch Up?

Maybe not. But I am trying to.  How many places have I been to while “out and about”? Many. And I have managed to fit in visits to a Winery, Park, Club, the City and also a movie. (I enjoyed “A Man Called Otto” and yes, did some prep work for an article about the movie theatre!)

So today, it’s another visit to the city. I’ve got to pick up something, then hop on the train again to go to take photos in Chinatown.

I’ll be back in the afternoon! More Writing.
