Spiders. I don’t like them. At least I don’t like BIG ones. There are some tiny jumping spiders that live in my house. I tolerate them. Also, I have many “daddy long legs” spiders in my house. I kill them as best I can. Insect spray works well.
The huntsman spider can be killed with insect spray – but they are big and run fast. I live alone, so it is up to me to dispose of any spider that dares invade my house!!
When I read the story this week of a giant huntsman, it reminded me of an event quite a few years ago. I was driving home in the early evening. It wasn’t quite dark. As I drove past the local golf club, I saw something move to the right of my head. When I looked I freaked. It was a large huntman spider, on the inside of my window. Level with my eyes.
My heart immediately started beating fast! Quickly I decided to stop my car and I pulled over to the side of the road, stopped, and then slid across the front seat and “escaped” from the passenger side of the car. I had no idea what to do next, but luck was with me.
Huntsman Spider
A young man came along. He had seen me pull over and get out of the car in a strange manner. I told him what was in the car. He went around to the driver’s side, saw the offending arachnid still sitting on the window and calmly opened the door, grabbed the beast and threw it onto the road. Saved.
I was very grateful to him. He asked me to do a favour for him. He asked me to drive him into the city. Mmmm. No, I was not going to drive a stranger into the city at night. It was now dark. Then he asked if he could use my phone. I let him. He phoned his friends who just happened to be driving past. He was supposed to meet them earlier, but somehow it didn’t pan out as planned. I thanked him as he climbed into his friend’s car and departed.
I was ever so grateful to him. He saved me from the dreaded spider.
