30 Minutes of Photography (UBC14)

Just 30 minutes of Photography

A Sunday afternoon. I am home alone. Do I watch television, have a nanna nap, or ….? Ok, so I grab my camera and car keys and head off to the waterfront. I am lucky as I live just a short distance from Moreton Bay.

It is an amazing bay, just a short distance from the city of Brisbane, and has some 360 islands! I suspect one or two are only visible at low tide, but there are many islands and of course, it is a great haven for boaties – those folk who like to get out on some watercraft to fish, explore or just enjoy the scenery.

In my car, I can get to the waterfront in about 5 minutes. Easy. There are many cafes along the esplanade, a wading pool and a water park and further along, is a public swimming pool. There are no great swimming areas along the waterfront, though some people do swim in a small beach near the water park.

There are two large boat clubs nearby, on the edge of the Manly Harbour/Marina which has millions of dollars worth of amazing boats. I like taking photographs of the yachts when the water is very still, and the boats’ reflections are clear.

It is a place that the scenery changes – with the weather, the light, the tides and more.  Typical photography. As this is all close to where I live, and on a Sunday the waterfront is very busy, I plan to return.

I took Photo One with my phone – on a day I was going to an appointment and forgot to put my Olympus camera in the car. While folk have made positive comments about this photo – I knew I could do better. I need to be on the waterfront when there is no breeze, water at high tide (or close) and a clear view right out to Moreton Island.

Same place – different look.

This is today’s photo – of the same place.  Low tide.

And there’s more

I visited Wynnum Creek where there are seagulls and pelicans waiting for fisherfolk to bring their boats in and clean the fish, throwing the waste to the hungry birds. (These two birds didn’t flinch or move when I walked up close to them!)

In 30 minutes I took 20 photos.

Well, I will be going back again soon. Not 100% happy with all the pics today.
