I am a speaker at the Writer’s Group Convention in Brisbane next week. A mere 10 minutes, and I have prepared my talk and my handout,
I am still trying to finish the e-book that I promised myself and others. This week it must be done. I have some other writing projects with deadlines this week and hope to finish them on time too. Often it is stuff for others that I get done, but not for myself.
I have been out and about this week taking photos for my stories on Weekend Notes. I managed 10 articles in October but am trying to get more done for November before I head off to China at the end of this month.
I fly out to China for less than a week. Why? A former student’s wedding. I did procrastinate about going, but decided to in the end. Maybe I should have stayed longer, but I will be on my own, for most of the time, and as it is very cold I was keen to return to summer in Brisbane.
Oddly the one challenge I have is not there in China (that I know of) but in Brisbane when I return. I will leave my car at a parking station which will transport me to the airport on the day I leave, but when I return, it is too late to get their shuttle bus back to get my car, and I must (a) wait until 4.30 am or thereabouts or (b) go alone to the parking station and find the key which will be in a lock that I must endeavour to get to on my own. The latter is a bit scary, but finding a safe place to sleep until 4.30 am is an issue too.
Oh, another challenge, but I am unphased by it at this time. What if I am the only English speaking guest at the wedding feast – Samantha the bride speaks English, and her fiance Chien, does not. Her parents don’t. Oh, well.
